Too big, too long, too thin, too wobbly, too grey, too slow, too clumsy! Why am I different from everyone else? The little duck has no luck. She bumps into everything, never fits in, and yes, she is ugly anyway. Even as an egg, she didn’t look like the others. Based on the well-known fairy tale “The Ugly Duckling” by Hans Christian Andersen, “Schwanen” tells a story of exclusion and otherness, questions the concepts of “beautiful” and “ugly,” and explores why it is not so easy to see yourself as you truly are.
So the little duck stumbles from one uncomfortable situation to the next, confronted with loneliness, rejection and cruelty. Until something begins to feel swan-like inside her. Where does this wing suddenly come from?
About the Group:
Eva Sotriffer builds her own puppets and develops her productions alongside them, often in exchange with other artistic partners. Based in South Tyrol, she has learned her craft in Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland. This may be why the language of her pieces is mostly non-verbal, relying on means of communication that are understood everywhere: lively figures, images, sounds, music and movement. She has been performing on a wide range of stages and festivals since 2010.
