Dessau, 7 January 2005:

Black smoke rises from the detention wing of the police station on Wolfgangstraße. In cell 5 lies Oury Jalloh. When emergency services arrive, only the death of the asylum seeker can be confirmed. Later investigations will reveal broken bones in his face and ribs. Third-party involvement ruled out. The fire is also attributed to Oury Jalloh. But how could someone bound at hands and feet set himself on fire? For the German judiciary, the case is clear: it was suicide. Or was it?

Based on real court documents from case number 6 KS 4/05, Christine Zeides and Alexander Finger enter the turmoil of a Kafkaesque trial in which everything revolves around the search for truth.
