The tiny but clever fish Swimmy is faster than all the others and very curious. He wants to swim out into the big wide sea. Because that is where the wonders await! “Come with me into the big wide sea!” Swimmy calls to the little red fish. “I want to show you many wonders!” But the small red fish of his shoal are afraid of the huge fish out there. Then Swimmy has an idea. Leo Lionni’s picture book “Swimmy”, first published in 1963, has long been a classic of children’s literature. It tells of the power of community, of overcoming fear and the courage to follow your own path. The message: together we are stronger. When we join forces, we can achieve anything.
And soon a shoal of little fish, shaped like a giant fish, swims out into the open sea. And Swimmy, the only small black fish, becomes the eye! And indeed – the big fish do not dare to come near them. And so, even today, many small fish swim happily through the wide sea disguised as a giant fish – what teamwork can achieve!
About the Group:
Anne-Kathrin Klatt studied Puppetry at HMDK Stuttgart and subsequently completed training as a certified dance pedagogue as well as somatics and performance training in California. She is artistic director of Theater am Torbogen (TAT), teaches “Dance in Puppetry” at HMDK, directs and performs for children and adults, and has been working regularly with the Goethe-Institut for many years.
