The man and composer Hanns Eisler appears thoroughly contradictory, witty, combative, and full of longing. Eisler’s life and work are shaped by the cultural upheavals of his time, by political struggle, by flight and exile, and by his own aspiration to create something useful. And by the struggle for an art capable of recognizing and transforming people.
Freaks & Fremde create a portrait of an extraordinary composer from a collage of selected songs and surprising scenic elements, animated video projections, and excellent puppetry.
About the Group:
Sabine Köhler and Heiki Ikkola have been working together as a company since 2006, bringing together theatre-makers, visual artists, and musicians for their projects in teams that explore and further develop working and living strategies over extended periods of time. The credo of their theatre work is an engagement with the foreign, the other, the unknown, and the impossible. Their work knows no genre boundaries and yet is anything but a mixed bag.
