We humans fall for the arsonists of our time again and again. The leaders, ideologues, and gurus who take up residence in our souls, our minds, and our attics. Out of fear for our own comfort, we invite them to salon music and roast goose—under the motto: Better to have many friends than to stand out unpleasantly!

The Biedermann Quartet performs “The Conflagration” for you, a theatre sonata in four movements:
1st movement: Humanity – giusto ma non troppo (appropriate, but not too much)
2nd movement: Mercy – moderato con dolore (moderate, with pain)
3rd movement: Civil Courage – risoluto ma non tanto (determined, but not too much)
4th movement: Grand finale – con brio molto inferno quasi infernale

Ruth Humer & Gerti Tröbinger chose this explosive subject—still, again and again, strikingly relevant—for their first joint production (2012). Through its skewed comedy, the production achieves an extreme tension between entertainment and subtle, ambiguous social critique.
