The miller is a big talker – he can do everything, carries heavy sacks with one hand, knows everyone and everything, and his daughter can even spin straw into gold… at least that’s what he tells the king.

The king is delighted, for he has plenty of straw but no gold. “Send your daughter to my castle, there she shall spin the straw into gold. If she succeeds, all is well; if she fails, she must die.” That’s how things go in fairy tales.
“I can’t do that at all,” says the miller’s daughter. “You’ve got yourself into this, now you have to see it through,” says the miller. When despair is at its greatest, a little man appears and offers to spin the straw for the miller’s daughter. But nothing in this world is free – the little man, of course, wants something in return.

Whether the little man gets what he wants and helps the miller’s daughter is best discovered in the theatre.

The Grimm fairy tale of Rumpelstiltskin, told with life-size puppets by a life-size storyteller.
