Practical, square, erotic – how is it that the table appears in so many words? It has pushed its way into our lives, forces us onto chairs, lets our backs wither and urges us to work. It wedges itself between us when we want to be close and trips us up when we are in a hurry.
But we can rely on it, it is infinitely resilient and never reproaches us. No meal, no celebration, no negotiation would be conceivable without it. As the perfect plane between floor and mouth, it divides the world into above and below, into those who sit at the table and those who fall beneath it…
About the Group:
Kaufmann & Co. (D) Ensemble Materialtheater (D)
Trained at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts (HfS) in Berlin. For over 20 years, Alexandra and Eva Kaufmann have been creating productions for children and adults. Their works are characterized by innovative approaches to staging, playful wit, and creativity, combining poetry and humor in equal measure. The result is repeatedly surprising and profound. The ensemble is renowned far beyond the borders of Europe.
This independent puppet theatre ensemble (Alberto García Sánchez, Annette Scheibler, Sigrun Kilger, Daniel Kartmann, and Luigi Consalvo) has been touring theatre festivals around the world from its base in Stuttgart for over 35 years. In their productions for children and adults, they address socio-political themes and continually seek new theatrical and aesthetic forms to tell their stories. Many productions were created in collaboration with fellow artists from puppet theatre, acting, music, and film, in cooperation with presenters and festivals throughout Europe, and have received numerous awards.
