*The Adventures of Prince Achmed* is a groundbreaking German animated film from 1926, created using Lotte Reiniger’s fascinating silhouette technique.
The film recounts the epic adventures of Prince Achmed, inspired by *One Thousand and One Nights*. It takes viewers through magical worlds where the prince battles demons, meets Aladdin, and rescues his love, Pari Banu.
The intricate production involved approximately 250,000 individual frames. The restored color version from 1999 faithfully captures the original magic of this cinematic masterpiece.
About Gerhard Gruber:
Gerhard Gruber has been a silent film pianist for 36 years, accompanying nearly 700 different silent films worldwide. A hallmark of his approach to silent film accompaniment is improvisation, which he views as a direct and ever-changing dialogue with the events on screen. This ensures that no two film performances are ever the same.
“It is never just the film alone; it is always the trinity of film, music, and audience. That’s why every evening is a unique experience.”
