The scruffy White Rabbit and the enigmatic Cheshire Cat, the plump Duchess, the egg-headed Humpty Dumpty, and the legendary Jabberwock, the extinct Dodo, or the brawling twins Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum – none of them are cute characters from an innocent children’s story; rather, they are wild representatives of an eccentric logic of absurdity and hidden desires. The mathematician, writer, and photographer Lewis Carroll invented them to entertain his young friends. In scenes and songs, "Songs for Alice" is dedicated primarily to the poems from Carroll's Alice books. Director Hendrik Mannes’ production balances between concert and theater, bringing together passionate hits and noisy explosions, expressive figures and poetic machines, quiet moments and grand fanfare, earworms and show-stoppers.
About the Group:
In 1997, musician Charlotte Wilde and puppeteer and puppet-maker Michael Vogel (a graduate of the Stuttgart Puppet Theatre program) founded their company, initially in Stuttgart and since 2003 in Leipzig, where Wilde & Vogel co-founded the Westflügel as an International Centre for Puppet Theatre. Puppetry and live music are the artistic mediums of Wilde & Vogel’s theatre. The themes and dramatic concepts of their productions are diverse, developed in collaboration with artists from various genres, and offer audiences space for imagination and personal associations.
